If you are a golfer that likes a challenge you shouldn't pass up the George Fazio Golf Course in Palmetto Dunes when visiting Hilton Head Island. One of America's most respected course designers, George Fazio, created this masterpiece that is among the top 100 courses in the country.
The Fazio golf course is the only par-70 course on Hilton Head Island and combines long play with precision shots. Many of the holes have the challenge of both bunkers and water hazards, especially since the course comes into frequent contact with the unique 11-mile lagoon system that winds around the Palmetto Dunes community. The Fazio course plays 6,239 yards from the middle white tees.
In January 2010 the course had its entire grass replaced with a more shade-tolerant Diamond Zoysia grass. This grass promotes superior and more consistent playing conditions for golfers at all times of the year. This grass retains its color throughout most of the year, and being more shade tolerant it is not affected as much by the beautiful, large, moss-covered speciman oaks and pines that abound throughout the course.
If you consider yourself a pretty good golfer, or even if you are a novice, there is something for all to enjoy at the George Fazio Golf Course.
